Over the past couple weeks, bear activity in downtown Greenwood Lake has become much more prevalent than ever before. Bears are searching for garbage cans and making quite the mess. We do live “in the woods” and bears are to be expected occasionally. But this is getting dangerous and causing a lot of trouble for residents and businesses.

We have been working with GWLPD and the DEC to find ways to deter the bears from coming into town, but the bottom line is we need your help! Everyone must immediately be much more diligent with their garbage: Keep garbage cans behind your fence or deep within your property until the night before garbage pickup. Having garbage cans in your front yard forward of your building is a violation of local law and will be strictly enforced. Not only does this create an eye sore, it has made bears more likely to roam the streets of Greenwood Lake looking for an easy meal.

Please do your part and help us reduce bear activity in the Village.

Paving Scheduled for Village

Beginning at the end of this week or Monday of next week, we will pave several streets in the Village. Vehicles must be off the roadway by 8pm the evening before paving (signs will be placed in the neighborhood by 4pm the day before). If a vehicle is left on a street that is to be paved, it will be towed at the owner’s expense. The following roads will be asphalt paved:
