FAQs Fequently Asked Questions
Do I need a Building Permit? I Received an Order to Remedy Violation, what should I do ??
Village Code requires permits for almost everything, roofing, siding , storage sheds, etc. The min. fee is $100.00 and $6.00 per thousand after that (a $3000.00 job would be $100.00 plus 3x$6.00= $118.00 for the permit). All permits include the Certificate of Occupancy and / or Certificate of Compliance upon proof of completion. There are no refunds for any building permits.
Remember all permits require inspections. Contractors or homeowners MUST call to set up an appointment at least 24 hrs. prior to Inspection. If you are NOT sure if it was inspected then it's best to check before "it's poured , covered or backfilled."
FAILURE to obtain a permit before ANY work is started is bad. All fees double and a court appearance ticket will be issued. The fine is $250.00 and the new permit cannot be issued until the fine is paid. Worst of all the illegal work may have to be removed before the permit can finally be issued. Most permits may be issued within a day or two, but remember that we have up to 10 business days to issue them.
First , what does it say? Correct the violation by a certain date and call the Building Dept. and let them know it is corrected . Pay the Administration Fee. END OF VIOLATION. Or you can ignore the Order to Remedy…. On the DUE DATE the Building Dept. will re-inspect the property see that the violation still exists, or has only been half remedied and we will issue an appearance ticket to court. From the due date until the court date the Fine is $ 250.00 Per Day…….Yes that will be a lot of money. So if you receive an Order to Remedy we are only letting you know there is a problem so please correct it as soon as possible or at least before the Due Date.
Will I need a Variance to add on to my House?
Accessory Structures
Maybe Not !!!! Your survey map will answer 9 out of the 10 question I will need to know….You don't have one!?! No better time than now to get one, you may own more property than you think.

YES they do need a permit. Sheds, Pools, and Garages may not be in front of the principal building, must be at least 10ft. from the house or deck, and at least 5 ft off any property line.
